We left Shelbure with no haste, winds of
10 to 15 knots, waves less than a foot. We wanted to take a day off and decided
to head towards Westport NY, which is approximately a 3 hour ride.
Westport is an old country village with
a few nice houses and stores. It has a nice marina with a ship’s store and
laundry room. However, what retained our attention is the Super Market.
It is a mixture between a back store and
a general store. Empty boxes all over the place, nothing seems to have a place
of its own. A thick film of dust covers pretty much everything but beer and
sodas – which seem to be their core business. I should give them a nice note
though for their produce and fruit tables. They are neatly stacked in baskets
on tables covered with tablecloths. The owner is a very nice lady and welcomes
visitors in broken French. This is worth the visit.
PS I have just cut my own hair for the
first time. Not bad...thank God I have curly hair J
